Oliver Westmoreland, one of our OISC course tutors, shares an update about the OISC Name Change

The OISC is rebranding and changing its name

The Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner (OISC) – the governing body for UK-based immigration advisers – is this week “rebranding” and changing its name. It will become the Immigration Advice Authority (IAA).

You could be forgiven for being confused about this, especially if you have been around for a long time. A good few years ago in one of its previous incarnations the First-Tier Tribunal (IAC) was known as the Immigration Appellate Authority and also abbreviated to IAA. And the Act of Parliament which created the OISC was the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999, also abbreviated to the IAA 1999. It rather looks as though they are running out of acronyms.

Anyway, for better or worse, that is how it is: it will now be the Immigration Advice Authority, but no doubt the old OISC moniker will linger for a while.

And, as with most things, the proof of the pudding will be in the eating.
